Overview

What happens when you mix 20 girls and 100 boys in a HIV youth prevention program? The girls drop out, except one or two. The remaining girls struggle to be seen or have their voices heard. Frustrated by young people well intended programs that unknowingly rendered girls invisible, Felistah Ngui and Rose Kanyi decided to create a space for girls in slums of Nairobi.

FOHA was started in June 2006 as an informal meeting and dialoging space for girls living in Kayole slums by Felistah Ngui and the Late Rose Kanyi. Housed in a tin shack in Kayole slums, the space turned into something magical, a safe space where girls from the Kayole and its environs could come to hang out, sing, talk, access information and learn about their sexuality.
